The government of Sokoto state under the administration of Governor Aminu Tambuwal disclosed that the state government had awarded a N169m contract for the restructure and renovation of the Giginya Memorial Stadium in the state.
Alhaji Musa Ausa, the Youths and Sports Commissioner of the state said this on Thursday 25th May 2017 in Sokoto at a news briefing to mark the Governor Tambuwal’s administration of two years in office.
Alhaji Musa further said that “The state government is making arrangements to pay the contractor 30 per cent mobilization fund soon.
“This is to enable the contractor to commence and complete the work on schedule and to make the stadium to be in tune with current global standards.
“The government has also earmarked N150m for the construction of a stadium in each of the three senatorial zones.
“Our plan is to construct a mini-stadium in each of the 23 local governments in due course to boost sports development”.
“In this direction, the sports ministry has packaged mega-sports competitions to be conducted between now and the end of 2017.
“We want to restore the lost glory of schools sports in the state as they serve as feeders to the various sports associations in the state and Nigeria generally.”
Alhaji Musa Ausa, the Youths and Sports Commissioner of the state further disclosed that the state government under the leadership of Governor Aminu Tambuwal was taking a concrete step towards the revival schools’ sports development and competitions among the youths in the state.
