Nigerian youths from all the nooks and crannies of country gathered for a National Unity summit organized by Arewa Ambassadors Congress of Nigeria in partnership with Youth Assembly of Nigeria in Imo State, Nigeria to brainstorm on the unity of Nigeria with other two major ethnic group in Nigeria – Igbo ethnic group, Yoruba ethnic group and the Hausa ethnic group.
A renowned business mogul and politician in Imo State, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, a special guest of honour on Wednesday 24 May 2017 said at the summit that the Igbo ethnic group do not want to secede from Nigeria and that the people of the South East zone would fight anybody who wanted to secede from Nigeria, including the Arewa and Oduduwa people.
Chief Iwuanyanwu further said that the federal government of Nigeria did wrong to have arrested the leader of the ingenious people of Biafra (IPOB), Chief Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“He (Kanu) only expressed his view. No arm was found in his possession. We are Biafrans and we are not ashamed to say it. Igbo have invested more in Nigeria than Arewa and Oduduwa. We want to be one Nigeria in fairness.”
“Biafra is not about secession. It is a name of a particular people in Nigeria from the South East. Therefore, it is not an offense to say that I am a Biafran. There was no victor, no vanquished after the civil war. I am impressed with Yakubu Gowon because he implemented all the agreements reached at the end of the Civil War. Igbo were not deprived at the end of the civil war.“
Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu further tasks Nigerian youths to be creative, contribute positively to the unity of the country and work for the political and socio economic growth of Nigeria and shun tribal and religious sentiments.
Whereas, Chief Iwuanyanwu further reiterates that the federal government of Nigeria is currently marginalising the Igbo people, simply because the zone voted en masse for the People’s Democratic Party in the last presidential election.
The Imo state Governor, Mr. Rochas Okorocha was represented by his Special Adviser on Northern affairs, Faisal Lawan submitted his keynotes by urging the Nigerian youths to dedicate their energy towards positive activities and to uphold the Unity of the country.
That Nigeria had the capacity to become one of the best countries in the world in the years to come.
