A pan Africa indigenous Nigeria financial institute, the Ecobank is the proud sponsor official bank of the only bi annual road race in Nigeria listed by the international governing body for athletics, the IAAF in its list of international competitions for the first half of 2017.
Okpekpe Road Race, major as the first road race in Nigeria granted full membership support by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and recognised as one of the prestigious road races in the world.
The Okpekpe International 10km Road Race is organized by Pamodzi Sports Marketing leaders in sports marketing and hospitality business in Nigeria.
The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki at the recently concluded Okpekpe Road Race applauded Ecobank Nigeria for its unflinching and consistent support to the development of sports among the youths in Nigeria for several years was quite commendable, that the support has put the Edo state in global map.
‘If a race has gone on for five years I think we should commend the organisers and the sponsors and praise their commitment towards the success of the race.’
Also the Managing Director, Ecobank Nigeria, Charles Kie stated that management of the bank was pleased to associates with Edo state government and Okpekpe Road Race this year’s International Road Race, that the Ecobank identifies sports as fulcrum and key component of rapid financial integration and economic development of the Africa continent.
