Entrepreneurship Development Centre Built by CBN for Students for Trade and Development Training

237 x 196 - youthrevolutionaryparty.wordpress.comIt was jubilation galore for students at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUAU), Umudike in Abia State when the building was finally launched for the students, management of the university and South East geo-political zone use.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) disclosed that the Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) set up to serve all the tertiary institutions in the South East geo-political zone of the country, to empower youths in the area of skills acquisitions and developing skills.

The Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) was designed to develop skills for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMSEs).

At the event, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele represented by the Deputy Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Oluwole Owoeye, urged students in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUA), Abia State and the entire South East geo-political zone to take advantage of the opportunity provided for them by the centre to acquired and develop their potentials.

Students of the university displayed their products to show case their skills and potentials, some of the students made clothing materials, shoes, slippers, bags; perfumes, air fresheners, insecticides, bread, cake, chin-chin and lot more

It was further disclosed that the Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) was part of Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Mr. Oluwole Owoeye while speaking stated that “In Nigeria we realized that for now, there is dearth of skills.

People don’t have relevant skills. So the essence of this thing is for people to develop skills in various areas, so that they can be independent on their own.

“This one is the project the bank has developed for the South East zone. My appeal is for Abia and the entire Southeast to leverage and take advantage of this centre, come and develop their skills.

“We have shoe, slippers, bag and sandals making unit, bread, cake, chin-chin and custard marking unit, clothing and textile unit, auto mechanic and generator repairs, insecticide, air freshener and perfume unit, among others in this center. So people from the South East zone should come in and build their skills so that Nigeria will be a better place for all of us”,

We know that the people of Abia State is well known for a lot of SMEs, so I want to use this medium to appeal to the people in Aba, its environs and entire Abia to come and patronize this centre, so that we will build up their skills.

Prof. Francis Otunta, Vice Chancellor of the University, represented by Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, thanked the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for initiatives and stated that the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) was established in the institution sometimes in 2011 in compliance with the directive of the Federal Government of Nigeria and National Universities Commission (NUC).

That the vision of Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) was to make Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUAU), Umudike in Abia State a foremost institution, especially the university of agriculture which provides comprehensive and highly accessible quality entrepreneurship education and training in Nigeria.

It was further stated by the management of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture that the institution would make maximum use of the multi-million Naira Centre for Entrepreneurship Development block built for them by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

That the institution has made it compulsory for second year students to engage in one trade at the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development.
