The Federal Government of Nigeria urged all states in the country to empower their people with skills that will propel their states as youth oriented. The various states in the country keen into the directive and are gearing the natural resources in their states to empower their people.
The Delta State Government of Nigeria has started the youth empowerment sometimes in 2016 and the beneficiary participants are getting set with the allocation of fish ponds of its 2016 Cycle of the Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme (YAGEP), who recently completed their three-month training in fish production empowerment.
Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme (YAGEP) is a Delta State Government initiatives to empower its people with agricultural skills and opportunity.
The Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme (YAGEP) beneficiaries are to be allocated with over 153 YAGEP fish ponds, lying, and situated at Ugbokodo in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State was launched with 77 YAGEPreneurs at the ratio of two fish ponds to a beneficiary to enable them start their fishery small medium scale enterprises.
The State Coordinator of Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme (YAGEP), Mr. Sam Adikakwu, addressed several issues and hands over poultry feeds to all the participants’ beneficiary. In his inspiring message to the participant beneficiaries, the Delta State Governor, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, disclosed that the Ugbokodo YAGEP fish cluster was one out of the five fish clusters in Delta State, that other empowerment site includes Mbiri, Alao-Ossissa, Egbokodo-Itsekiri and Anwai communities.
He disclosed the state his working very hard to ensure that its people are empowered that each YAGEPreneur would be started-up in the fishery enterprise with 2000 post fingerlings and supported with sufficient fish feeds till the fishes mature to table size.
That ‘our deal with Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme (YAGEP) participant beneficiaries, will enjoy continuous support from the state government.
The Governor of Delta State Government, Governor Ifeanyi kowa, represented by the Chief Job Creation Officer (CJCO), Prof. Eric Eboh, added that the post fingerlings would be supplied to all YAGEP cluster farms in the state by Songhai Delta, Amukpe, assuring each YAGEPreneur would be placed on a monthly stipend to cater for their welfare for six months in addition to a micro credit loan immediately they take over their ponds to ensure a smooth take-off.
In his inspiring message to the beneficiaries that while encouraging them to organize themselves into cooperative societies to benefit from the Delta State Government’s micro credit scheme and support to fish farmers, he said that the Chief Job Creation Officer (CJCO) will provide them with support for registration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Some of the participant beneficiaries informed journalists present that they were very grateful to the Delta State Government for the right decision they have taken to empower the youths in the state, that it is important for the youths to be constructive engage in economic empowerment in other for the states youths not to engage in property vandalism.
From some of the two of the participant beneficiaries, Blessing Okiti from Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State and Williams Ukpaka Victor from Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria speaking on behalf of all the participant beneficiaries, they both expressed appreciation to the Delta State Government for its efforts at tackling youth unemployment.
The Delta State Government urges beneficiaries to utilize the opportunities and skills given to them for their benefit and the society.
